This 6-day Umbwe itinerary is an improved version of the shorter 5-day option, offering better acclimatization and a higher summit success rate. The route begins on the southern side of the mountain and quickly ascends through dense rainforest before joining the Machame Route at Barranco Camp.

After breakfast, depart from Arusha or Moshi and drive to Umbwe Gate.
Following registration, begin your trek through dense rainforest along a steep and narrow trail. This is one of the most direct ascents on Kilimanjaro, gaining altitude quickly.
Arrive at Umbwe Camp, where you will enjoy dinner and overnight surrounded by forest.
